Semi-Centurion

The Centurions had their legions
We too have fought wars
And now at half the number
Our legionaries stand behind us.
Always mere witnesses
But testament to our vigilance,
temperance, dexterity, strength,
and lack thereof.
We turn around and see them arrayed
Always at the crossroads
A life over fifty years.
